And here's the letter "d" for the header I'm building for this site.

I rolled out and wrapped a new, clean (light gray) eraser, around an older, darker eraser.

I suppose this isn't "entirely out of kneaded erasers" but since kneaded erasers are made to erase, I thought I'd do just that.

For this letter I drew the letter "e" on a piece of paper with a graphite pencil, then smushed my eraser onto it. The graphite stuck to the eraser just like a comic strip's ink sticking to silly putty.

I peeled it off the paper, decorated the edge with an x-acto knife, scanned the eraser, flipped it in Photoshop & here it is!

For the letter "F" I used a new eraser, cut it out with an x-acto knife, and placed it on top of a 5+ year old, darker eraser for contrast.

If you're not familiar with kneaded erasers, they get darker over time with use. As you knead them, they "clean themselves" but will still slowly darken the more you erase with them. Eventually they become sticky and lose their ability to erase. But they never lose their ability with which to be sculpted!

I thought I'd post photos as I complete the letters for the header of this site.

I'm making each letter out of kneaded eraser and laying each piece directly on my scanner! For the letter "K" I used a fresh eraser out of the package and pressed paperclips, velcro and other things into it to give it texture.
